The following steps will show you how to
rip a DVD to one single VOB file using 3 of
the most popular free software tools:
SmartRipper, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter.
SmartRipper
Step 1.
Start SmartRipper with a movie DVD disc in the DVD drive,
and wait for the tool to finish analyzing the DVD disc content.
Note:
If the tool fails to load the DVD disc,
try to play the disc for 30 seconds with a software DVD player,
then pause it, and restart SmartRipper.
Step 2.
Select a movie program in the list, and
click Target button to select your output file location.

Step 3. Change the default selection for File Splitting.
First, click Settings.
In the Settings->Movie window,
select max-filesize for "File Splitting".
In the max-filesize field, enter "9000" for the maximum
output file size, and click OK to confirm the change.

Step 4.
Click Start button to start the ripping.
DVD Shrink
Step 1.
Start DVD Shrink with a movie DVD disc in the DVD drive.
Click Open Disc button, select the DVD drive, and click OK.
Wait for the tool to finish analyzing the DVD disc content.
Note:
If the tool fails to load the DVD disc,
try to play the disc for 30 seconds with a software DVD player,
then pause it, and restart the tool.
Step 2.
Click Re-author.
Drag the main movie file (e.g., title1) over into the DVD Structure window.

Step 3.
Select Edit->Preferences.
Change the DVD output size to dual-layer in the Preferences page.

On Output Files page,
clear the check mark for the 4th item
"Split VOB files into 1Gb size chunks (recommended)."

Step 4.
Click the Backup button,
select your output file location,
and click OK to start the ripping.
DVD Decrypter
Step 1.
Start DVD Decrypter with a movie DVD disc in the DVD drive.
Note:
If the tool fails to load the DVD disc,
try to play the disc for 30 seconds with a software DVD player,
then pause it, and restart the tool.
Step 2.
Select Edit->Select Main Movie Files.
By default, the tool will select the main movie VOB files
and the corresponding IFO file.

Step 3.
Select Tools->Settings->File Mode.
Set File Splitting to "None", and click OK to confirm the change.

Step 4.
Click the Destination button,
select your output file location,
and press the big DVD button to start the ripping.
